Two TESTS
Generally, Two blood tests are needed to know if you Hepatitis C. These can be done by your GP, Sexual Health Clinic and Drug treatment service. At home tests from Let's Get Checked & Better to Know are also available.
First Test
Antibody Test
This test checks to see if you have ever had the Hep C virus. A positive result does not mean you have Hep C.
Second Test
PCR Test
This test checks if the hepatitis C virus is still in your body. A positive result means you require treatment.
Antibodies
If you are antibody positive the PCR test will confirm if you are currently infected. If this result is positive until treated you can pass it on to other people.
Positive
If you are antibody positive the PCR test will confirm if you are currently infected. If this result is positive until treated you can pass it on to other people.
No Treatment
If you are antibody positive the PCR test will confirm if you are currently infected. If this result is positive until treated you can pass it on to other people.
PCR Test
If you are antibody positive the PCR test will confirm if you are currently infected. If this result is positive until treated you can pass it on to other people.
